Kansas City is the “Heart of America,” celebrated for its distinct style of barbecue (slow-smoked with a molasses-based sauce) and its rich jazz heritage. In the 1920s and 30s, the city was a jazz mecca, a legacy preserved in the historic 18th & Vine district. Kansas City is also known as the “City of Fountains,” boasting more working fountains than any city in the world other than Rome. It is a bi-state metropolitan area (straddling Missouri and Kansas) with a growing arts culture, passionate sports fans (Chiefs and Royals), and a laid-back Midwestern rhythm.
