Abha is the capital of the Asir Province and is culturally and geographically distinct from the rest of the Kingdom. Located high in the Sarawat Mountains at an elevation of 2,270 meters (7,450 feet), it is famous for its mild climate, often serving as a summer retreat for Saudis escaping the desert heat. The city is often shrouded in mist and is surrounded by lush forests and dramatic peaks. Abha is renowned for its traditional mud and stone architecture, particularly the “Rijal Almaa” heritage village nearby. It is also the gateway to the Asir National Park and features a cable car system that offers breathtaking views of the steep Green Mountain (Jebel Al Akhdar).
