Taif is known as the “City of Roses.” Located in the mountains near Mecca, it is famous for the cultivation of the Taif Rose, which is processed into expensive rose water and perfumes used on the Kaaba. Due to its cooler climate, it has historically served as the summer capital for the Saudi government and royal family. The road to Taif is an engineering marvel, winding up the steep escarpment. The city features the Shubra Palace, lush parks, and is a major producer of fruits such as grapes, figs, and honey. It acts as a cooler, greener escape from the heat of the lower plains.
