Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky and the gateway to the South. It is world-renowned for the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing, held annually at Churchill Downs. The city is also the source of 95% of the world’s bourbon whiskey, serving as the anchor of the “Bourbon Trail.” Louisville has a strong manufacturing heritage (it is the home of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat) and a burgeoning food scene known as “New Southern” cuisine. Sitting on the banks of the Ohio River, it offers a mix of Midwestern industrialism and Southern gentility.
